Using the punch is straightforward. After unloading the pistol and removing all ammunition from the workspace, field strip the pistol per factory instructions and remove the take-down lever. Place the frame into the correct Apex Disassembly Fixture on a solid surface — a workbench leg or concrete floor works well. Once the frame is properly aligned, insert the tip of the punch into the designated hole in the fixture until it contacts the front locking block pin.

With one hand, grip the anvil rings firmly to steady the tool. With your other hand, grasp the hammer rings and pull the spring parallel to the drive pin, stretching it approximately two inches. Release the hammer — the spring pulls the hammer down onto the anvil, transferring energy directly into the pin. Check alignment after each strike. It may take several impacts to drive the pin free, but each hit is clean, controlled, and directed exactly where it needs to go.
