About the Springfield Saint 5.56mm Flat

Overview

When you pick up the Springfield Saint 5.56mm Flat Dark Earth (FDE) semi-automatic rifle, the first thing you notice is the balance. Springfield Armory built this carbine to bridge the gap between a ready-to-run duty rifle and a no-nonsense home defense platform. The FDE finish isn't just for looks—it cuts glare in the field and resists corrosion in humid conditions. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, this rifle cycles reliably with everything from 55-grain range ammo to 77-grain defensive loads. The flat dark earth furniture pairs with the black nitride barrel for a low-profile setup that blends into any environment.

Features & Specs

Springfield Armory designed the Saint series with input from competitive shooters and law enforcement. The 5.56mm Flat Dark Earth (FDE) variant shares that same DNA. Here is what sets this semi-automatic rifle apart:

• 16-inch chrome-moly vanadium barrel with Melonite finish—extends barrel life and simplifies cleaning after long range sessions
• Bravo Company manufacturing grip and stock—the BCM Mod 0 grip gives a natural hand angle, and the Gunfighter stock locks up tight with zero wobble
• Nickel boron bolt carrier group—slicker surface reduces friction, makes manual cycling smoother, and wipes clean with a rag

The Saint also comes with a mid-length gas system instead of a carbine-length setup. That means softer recoil impulse and less wear on internal parts. The flat dark earth anodized aluminum handguard has M-Lok slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, so you can mount a light or foregrip without adding a rail section. Overall length sits at 32.5 inches collapsed and 35.75 inches extended, making it maneuverable in tight spaces while still providing a solid sight radius.
