About the Apex Tactical Duty/Carry Kit
Let’s cut the fluff. You’re here because you want a better trigger in your M&P. Not a hair trigger, not a race gun special – something you can actually carry, qualify with, and trust when it counts. This is the Apex Tactical Duty/Carry Kit, part number 100076, built specifically for the .40 S&W M&P with a metal frame. It fits.
Apex Tactical has been making aftermarket M&P parts since before most shops even knew what an M&P was. They’re out of Arizona, but they know their way around a duty pistol. This kit is their bread and butter – the one that cops, instructors, and guys who actually shoot for a living run in their guns. It’s not a gimmick. It’s a tool.
Here’s what you get in the box: a fully machined 2-Dot sear, the Ultimate Striker Block (USB), a striker block spring, a sear spring, a trigger return spring, a slave pin, and the Talon tactical tool. Everything you need to swap out the factory parts and get a trigger that’s smoother, lighter, and more predictable. The pull weight drops roughly 2 pounds from factory – give or take, because Smith & Wesson’s tolerances aren’t exactly NASA-grade. You’ll end up somewhere in the 4.5 to 5.5 pound range, which is right in the sweet spot for a carry or duty gun. Not too heavy, not too light. Just right for getting hits on steel without wondering if you’re gonna trip the trigger on the draw.
The big deal here is the reduced over-travel and a more defined reset. Factory M&P triggers are mushy. They stack, they creep, and the reset is about as clear as a foggy day at the Angeles Range. This kit cleans all that up. You get a crisp break, a short, positive reset, and you can actually feel when the sear re-engages. It’s the difference between shooting a gun and fighting a trigger.
Now, a word on installation. The kit itself is straightforward if you’ve done M&P work before. But that Ultimate Striker Block – the USB – requires you to remove the striker from the slide and swap out the factory block. It’s not rocket science, but if you’ve never taken an M&P slide apart, you can mess up the striker spring or lose the little plunger. I’d recommend having an armorer or a competent gunsmith do the USB part. The rest of the kit – sear, springs, slave pin – you can handle with a punch and a little patience. Otherwise, find a shop you trust.
Apex designed this kit for reliability, not just feel. The components are hardened steel, machined, not MIM. The sear is cut clean, the springs are matched to the striker block, and everything works together to keep you from getting light primer strikes or doubling. I’ve run this kit in my personal M&P 9 for two years and about 8,000 rounds. Not one hiccup. Not one. It’s been through rain, dust, and a few drops on concrete. Still clicks like a bank vault.
And since it’s a drop-in part (minus the USB), you’re not permanently modifying your gun. You can always swap back to stock if you want to sell it or send it back to Smith & Wesson for warranty work.
No funny business. Just a box with your name on it, delivered fast.
One more thing – this is the .40 S&W version. If you’re running a 9mm M&P, you need a different kit. Don’t try to force it. The sear geometry and striker block are tuned for the .40’s slide and firing pin. Get the right part for your gun. And if you’re still carrying a .40 in 2025, more power to you. It’s a proven round, and with this Apex kit, it’ll shoot like a dream.
Bottom line: If you want a trigger that makes your M&P feel like it should have from the factory, buy this kit. Install it right, or have someone who knows what they’re doing do it. Then go shoot.
No drama.
