CZ just released a new striker-fired 9mm, and Northern California buyers from Sacramento to the Gold Country want to know what it is. Meet the DUTY 4.0. The serialized part is an internal chassis, so the fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame is modular. CZ builds it in two sizes: the C compact at 15+1 and the F full-size at 17+1, each also offered as an MS model with a manual thumb safety on top of the firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger bar safety. The slide takes a red dot by direct mount; the fixed sights stay on.
Roseville commuters, Stockton homeowners and folks up in Placerville, Jackson and Angels Camp mostly want the same thing from a 9mm this size: home defense first, range time second, and carry where the county allows. The 4-inch barrel and 7.4-inch overall length keep the F manageable; the C is the easier one to tuck away.
Capacity on the short-grip is 15+1, with a 17+1 option through the extended base plate. Height is 135 mm (5.3 in) and the empty weight 770 g (27.2 oz). If you carry, this is the DUTY to look at; if you mostly shoot at the range, see the F.
This version has no external safety lever. It relies on three internal safeties, firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger bar safety, and the trigger is the same as on the MS model. Shooters who prefer a lever should pick the MS.
Under the DUTY name sits a serialized modular chassis, a 33 mm (1.3 in) wide fiberglass-reinforced polymer frame, a 102 mm barrel and a trigger CZ rates at 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) with a 4 mm (0.16 in) reset. The slide is optics-ready by direct mount rather than an adapter plate. Fixed sights come standard, and the barrel is not threaded.
The CZ DUTY 4.0 C suits anyone who wants a modern optics-ready 9mm with CZ's grip and a trigger that is better than the class average: daily carry, a nightstand gun that also rides along, and new shooters who want one pistol for everything.
California does not require a purchase permit, but you do need a Firearm Safety Certificate, a DROS entry and ten full days before your dealer can release the pistol. We ship the DUTY 4.0 to the California dealer you choose at checkout; that dealer handles the paperwork and confirms what can be released to you. Ammunition goes to a licensed ammunition vendor, while optics and gear come to your door. Price and stock are checked live before you pay.
Questions buyers ask: How long is the wait to pick up a DUTY 4.0 in California? Ten full days from the DROS entry, and you need a current Firearm Safety Certificate. Your dealer walks you through the rest at pickup. Can I put a Holosun on the DUTY 4.0 C? Yes. The slide is optics ready with direct mounting, and CZ's own photos show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield red dots fitted. Does the CZ DUTY 4.0 C take CZ P-10 magazines? CZ lists the DUTY with its own 15-round magazine and an extended base plate for 17+1. P-10 magazine fit is not confirmed, so plan on DUTY magazines.
