CZ just released a new striker-fired 9mm, and Northern California buyers from Sacramento to the Gold Country want to know what it is. Meet the DUTY 4.0. The serialized part is an internal chassis, so the fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame is modular. CZ builds it in two sizes: the C compact at 15+1 and the F full-size at 17+1, each also offered as an MS model with a manual thumb safety on top of the firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger bar safety. The slide takes a red dot by direct mount; the fixed sights stay on.
Roseville commuters, Stockton homeowners and folks up in Placerville, Jackson and Angels Camp mostly want the same thing from a 9mm this size: home defense first, range time second, and carry where the county allows. The 4-inch barrel and 7.4-inch overall length keep the F manageable; the C is the easier one to tuck away.
Pick the F when the gun lives on a belt or in a nightstand rather than under a T-shirt. Over the short-grip it adds two rounds (17+1 against 15+1), about 8 mm of grip and 10 g of weight, and nothing else changes.
The chassis is serialized and modular, which is CZ's way of making the grip module swappable. The frame itself is fiberglass-reinforced polymer, 33 mm (1.3 in) wide, on a 102 mm barrel and a 188 mm (7.4 in) overall length. The SFDA trigger breaks at 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) and resets in 4 mm (0.16 in). Optics mount directly to the slide; the photos from CZ show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield footprints.
MS stands for external safety. This model adds a frame-mounted lever to the internal safeties every DUTY has: the firing pin block, the trigger safety and the trigger bar safety. Agencies and shooters who want a positive on/off control choose this version; the trigger itself is unchanged.
The CZ DUTY 4.0 F MS suits anyone who wants a modern optics-ready 9mm with CZ's grip and a trigger that is better than the class average: home defense, duty use, competition and long range sessions where the extra grip and two more rounds matter.
California does not require a purchase permit, but you do need a Firearm Safety Certificate, a DROS entry and ten full days before your dealer can release the pistol. We ship the DUTY 4.0 to the California dealer you choose at checkout; that dealer handles the paperwork and confirms what can be released to you. Ammunition goes to a licensed ammunition vendor, while optics and gear come to your door. Price and stock are checked live before you pay.
Questions buyers ask: How long is the wait to pick up a DUTY 4.0 in California? Ten full days from the DROS entry, and you need a current Firearm Safety Certificate. Your dealer walks you through the rest at pickup. Can I put a Holosun on the DUTY 4.0 C? Yes. The slide is optics ready with direct mounting, and CZ's own photos show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield red dots fitted. Is the CZ DUTY 4.0 F MS the same gun as the F? Yes, apart from the manual thumb safety. Chassis, trigger, slide and the 17+1 capacity are identical.
