Description

Removing the front locking block pin on your FN 509, FN 510, or FN 545 pistol is one of the most frustrating parts of routine maintenance. The pin is under significant spring tension and often requires repeated, awkward hammer strikes that can mar the frame or slip off the pin face. The Disassembly Punch – 3/32″ solves this problem by combining a precision flat-tip punch with an integrated spring-powered hammer system, delivering consistent, controlled force directly to the pin face.

This tool is specifically modified by Apex to have a flat tip, which provides full contact with the front locking block pin. Instead of relying on your own hammer swing and guesswork, the spring mechanism stores and releases energy with each pull, letting you apply repeated, predictable impacts. The result is a pin that pops free in just a few hits, without the risk of bending the pin or damaging your frame.

  • Flat-tip design ensures direct, stable contact with the pin face
  • Spring-powered hammer eliminates the need for a separate hammer and loose punch
  • Compatible with FN 509, FN 510, and FN 545 (all variants)
  • 3/32″ tip diameter matches the front locking block pin precisely
  • Works best with the Apex Disassembly Fixture for your specific pistol model

Using the punch is straightforward. After unloading the pistol and removing all ammunition from the workspace, field strip the pistol per factory instructions and remove the take-down lever. Place the frame into the correct Apex Disassembly Fixture on a solid surface — a workbench leg or concrete floor works well. Once the frame is properly aligned, insert the tip of the punch into the designated hole in the fixture until it contacts the front locking block pin.

With one hand, grip the anvil rings firmly to steady the tool. With your other hand, grasp the hammer rings and pull the spring parallel to the drive pin, stretching it approximately two inches. Release the hammer — the spring pulls the hammer down onto the anvil, transferring energy directly into the pin. Check alignment after each strike. It may take several impacts to drive the pin free, but each hit is clean, controlled, and directed exactly where it needs to go.

This tool is designed for the home gunsmith who values precision and repeatability over brute force. It saves time, reduces frustration, and protects your firearm investment. At $20, it is an affordable addition to any FN owner’s toolkit. Pair it with the appropriate Apex Disassembly Fixture for the best results, and you will have a front locking block pin removal process that is fast
